Will my instructor or supervisor know that I am using your writing coaching services? All coaching sessions are strictly confidential, and we do not share your engagement with us with a third party. There is also nothing illicit about seeking writing coaching—our role is to support your learning, not to do the work for you. Our coaches do not produce or rewrite content on your behalf. Instead, we help you clarify your ideas, organise your thoughts, manage your writing process, and overcome challenges that may be stalling your progress. Our services uphold academic integrity policies and ethical standards in higher education.
-
How many coaching sessions will I need? The number of coaching sessions you need is entirely up to you. Writers have full autonomy to decide when to book sessions and when to pause or stop, based on their own needs, progress, priorities, and preferences. Some writers find a single session is enough to address specific concerns, while others benefit from ongoing support over several sessions. Our coaches do not predetermine or require a set number of sessions; instead, we work with your submitted concerns or questions and if they are not specific enough to be tackled in a single session, we'll help you delimit them so that the session can become reasonably productive, and then leave you to decide whether to continue the conversations in another session.

How can coaching help me write better?Writing coaching helps you become a better writer by providing personalised feedback on your draft and guidance that is tailored to your needs and goals. Coaches work with you to find clarity and direction. Through guided questioning and discussion, you’ll learn to identify and address weaknesses in clarity, precision, coherence, argumentation, resonance and impact, and discover ways to move your ideas and research forward. Coaching also helps you reflect on your writing process and how you're thinking through your writing—so you can carry those insights into future projects. You’ll leave each session with a clearer sense of direction and strategies for improvement. Over time, coaching conversations build your capacity to make better decisions, think more independently and critically, and express your voice as a researcher with greater confidence.

How is this service relevant in the age of A.I. tools like ChatGPT?AI tools are certainly valuable resources for writers. But it’s important to remember that these tools are text generators—they produce language based on patterns and predictability, not understanding or intention. While AI can offer as many helpful suggestions as a coach, it lacks the warmth, experiential wisdom, and real-time adaptability needed to support you through personal struggles and uncertainty. AI cannot fully understand your personal intentions and the subtle nuances of your ideas. Its feedback also tends to be less helpful for complex, long-form writing. On the other hand, the emotional connection and encouragement provided by a human coach play a vital role in fostering self-confidence, resilience, and growth: it’s not just about improving a piece of text—it’s about you, growing as a writer. And for many graduate writers tackling complex, long-form work, it’s the quality of that connection that makes the difference. Coaching also provides personalised guidance to help graduate writers use AI responsibly—as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for their own intellectual effort. A coach encourages independent thinking, deeper engagement with content, and the cultivation of authentic authorial voice. By working with a coach, you learn to balance the efficiencies of AI with the need for genuine learning and honing a craft.

How should I prepare for a writing coaching session? To prepare for your writing coaching session, please have a draft of your writing (up to 1500 words) ready and submit it along with the booking form, which requires Google login. Clearly indicate any specific concerns or questions you want to discuss with your coach—these will help anchor and focus your session, though your coach will also help clarify your needs and goals during the meeting. For the best experience, ensure you have a quiet space, a stable internet connection, and working camera, microphone, and speakers. Being as specific as possible about your concerns will make your coaching session more productive and tailored to your needs.
-
What happens during a coaching session?During a writing coaching session, you’ll engage in a reflective, one-on-one conversation with your coach, focused on your draft and your specific goals, concerns, or questions. These sessions provide a collaborative and confidential space to clarify your ideas, explore strategies, and receive personalised feedback suited to where you're at in the writing process. Your coach will help you navigate challenges and make informed choices, all while supporting your growth and well-being as a writer and scholar. The emphasis is on development and empowerment, not judgment or correction.

I’m an undergraduate student. Can I use your writing coaching services? Our expertise is particularly suited to supporting advanced, graduate-level research writing and extended writing projects where sustained argument, coherence, and clarity are essential. However, our experience includes working with undergraduates. We are happy to coach undergraduate writers if they feel they would benefit from our coaching. We'd also be happy to support Honours level undergraduates in their research writing projects.
-
Can you coach me on non-writing projects like conference presentations or Three Minute Thesis? While we do not provide coaching on the spoken delivery or performance aspects of presentations, we are happy to support you with the writing components, such as crafting effective presentation slides or developing a clear and engaging script for your speech. As writing specialists, we excel at helping you organise your ideas, clarify your message, and tailor your content for your audience.
-
What if the writing advice I receive from coaching conflicts with what I’ve been taught by my instructor or supervisor? It’s natural to encounter different perspectives on writing—even within the same field. In fact, this happens frequently in the real world, such as when journal authors receive conflicting feedback from peer reviewers. Our coaches advise mainly from a writing studies perspective. Additionally, we are committed to providing guidance that is sensitive to the conventions and expectations of your field, so you can trust that we would not ill-advise, say, a Science writer to reflect on their positionality in presenting their method, or a Humanities writer to account for anomalies in discussing their results. However, coaching advice is always intended as supportive suggestions for your reflection and growth, not as absolute rules. We encourage you to consider our feedback thoughtfully and to adapt or apply it in ways that best fit your specific situation, prioritising the requirements and norms set by your instructor or supervisor. Our goal is to empower you with new strategies and perspectives, while respecting your institutional conditions and helping you become a more confident, discriminating writer.

Is writing coaching right for me?Writing coaching can be especially helpful if you’re seeking support to clarify your ideas, strengthen your argumentation, and bring greater coherence and focus to your writing. Whether you’re struggling to move from reading to writing, finding it difficult to connect your research to existing scholarship, or unsure how to respond to feedback about structure or clarity, coaching can help you navigate these challenges. It’s also valuable if you’re transitioning to long-form research writing, preparing a research proposal or confirmation/qualifying report, experiencing writer's block, or adapting your thesis for publication. Our coaching works best for writers who are open to reflection and ready to engage in a conversation focused on growth. If you’re looking for someone to “fix” your writing or aren’t prepared to discuss and develop your own ideas, coaching may not be the right fit at this time. Our goal is to empower you to become a more confident and independent writer, not to take over your voice or reasoning.
-
Can I record my coaching sessions? To maintain a safe, confidential, and trusting environment, recording of coaching sessions is not permitted. This policy protects both client and coach by ensuring that sensitive discussions remain private and are not shared or accessed without consent. It also encourages open and honest conversation, which is essential for effective coaching. If you need a summary of our discussion, I am happy to provide them upon request.
-
Do you offer refunds if I change my mind or need to cancel?Because we reserve dedicated time and resources for each client, we do not offer refunds once a booking is confirmed with the sharing of a unique meeting link. This policy helps protect our time and ensures clients value the intellectual labour involved in preparation, not just the actual session, and this preparatory work begins as soon as we receive your draft. However, we would be happy to reschedule a confirmed booking if you give us sufficient notice-at least 48 hours. To ensure the best fit and clarity for both parties, we offer a complimentary pre-booking consultation for first-timers. This allows us to discuss your needs and expectations before any commitment is made. If you have any questions or concerns before booking, please take advantage of the free consultation—we're here to help you make an informed decision.
-
What platform do you use for coaching sessions? We use Google Meet for its simplicity and ease of use, to provide both a straightforward and secure experience for one-on-one coaching.
-
What types of coaching services do you offer? We offer personalised writing e-coaching sessions—one-hour, online meetings designed to support early-career researchers and graduate students in advanced, long-form writing for coursework, research, and publication. These sessions are also valuable for departmental fellows and thesis supervisors interested in fostering discipline-specific communication or using writing as a tool to develop research ideas. In addition, we provide customised, interactive workshops—either on-site or online—tailored to small groups seeking to uncover the “hidden rules” of writing and publishing in their discipline. Our workshops also support university departments in building staff capacity and developing sustainable, in-house graduate writing support.

Can coaching help me do better in my courses, even if I’m not writing a thesis or research paper? It is important to consider whether the challenges you are facing are writing-related. If your difficulties stem from understanding course content, managing your time, or dealing with test anxiety, writing coaching may not fully address those needs. Writing coaching can be very helpful even with short-form expository writing to answer structured questions. Many students are surprised to find that these questions often require more than just finding and rearranging relevant information from course materials. For example, higher-order questions often call for critical thinking, analysis, and clear, well-supported arguments. Our coaching can help you to understand what each question is really asking, organise your ideas logically, and respond precisely to the question requirements. We encourage you to reflect on what’s truly holding you back in your situation, to determine if writing coaching is the right support for you.
